Classification of R5 Types
As mentioned previously, Runes on the obverse of the coins feature predominately in the classification into types. The crown was also examined, as were the symbols/letters behind the head. The symbols and letters inside and outside of the standard on the reverse also constitute a significant relevance to the classifying. Where the iconography on the obverse or reverse was not distinct enough to determine exactly the coins were not given a Type number. One coin did not have any neck lines which is considered to be a necessary feature of an R5 Sceat, as a consequence it was not allocated a Type number, this coin also had a four point crown, no others did.
